Subliminal Messages – The Secret Ingredient in the Two Most Popular Self Help Books

Subliminal Messages – The Secret Ingredient in the Two Most Popular Self Help Books

Want to know the secret behind the most popular self help books? If you're read these books, you will notice one thing in common: they all contain powerful subliminal messages.

These books all use self help subliminal messages that can help you feel better about yourself, about life, or about money and success. They work on the premise that it's all a matter of perception.

Let's take a look at the two most popular self help books and the subliminal messages they contain.

1. The Secret – How Positive Thinking Can Change Your Life

One of the few self help books that developed into a phenomenon and was actually made into a movie is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The book focuses on the power of positive thinking and how positive thoughts in the mind can dramatically change and improve a person's life. According to the book, positive thoughts are all you need so you can increase your wealth, improve your health, and achieve total happiness and fulfillment in life. The author identified the concept as the age-old but much taken for granted "law of attraction."

The Secret has now been followed up by The Power, another self help book that came about based on correspondences between Byrne and people who responded in letters to her first self help book.

The main idea is that if you want something, you have to attract it by really thinking of and feeling yourself achieving that particular desire. You have to let your mind revolve around the idea that "I can get what I want." Once this is embedded into your subconscious thought, the mind won't recognize thoughts like "You're incapable, you won't get what you want." When faced with such negative thoughts, the mind will respond with "That's not familiar thought, let's fend it off."

The Secret is to just keep on telling yourself that "you can" and, Byrne claims, "you will."

2. Who Moved My Cheese – Developing A Positive Attitude Towards Change

Another popular self help book is Who Moved My Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson. Who Moved My Cheese is a motivational book that teaches on how to deal with change that occurs at work and in life in general. The book takes the form of a story revolving around two mice Sniff and Scurry and two mini humans named Hem and Haw who are all hunting for cheese in a maze, which is symbolic for the environment we all live in. In their hunt, the characters encounter different Cheese Stations, symbolic of the different changes that usually occur in a person's life and work. The first station was full of cheese, so the mini humans did not expect the next stations to be empty of cheese.

The story teaches this lesson: if you rely on things to become constant, you may be on your way to extinction. The book contains many subliminal messages such as:

If you do not change, you can become extinct.

What would you do if you weren't afraid?

There are also symbolic messages such as:

They keep moving the cheese. – Change happens.

Get ready for the cheese to move. – Anticipate change.

Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old. – Monitor change.

Move with the cheese. – Change.

Savor the adventure and enjoy the taste of new cheese. - Enjoy change.
